As we elegantly try to manage a very inelegant situation, read hauling two big suitcases up and down stairs and trying not to hit anyone, I am filled with a deep sense of gratitude. Growing up in Europe we tend to not realise what an amazing, historical richness we have at our fingertips. Old, slightly worn out buildings that have practically lived through time as an observer of the ever turning wheel of change it’s subject to.
Every single day is a new adventure! Where are you sleeping? No idea. What are you eating? Not a clue. Who are you eating with? Take a guess. Is there a better way to get out of your daily routine?
We finished the first day of our vacation by sharing a glass of wine on a terrace full of girls talking about adolescents discovering their sexuality and naming a bright red model of a penis used to explain said sexuality to youths in the US. Pretty great, right?
What do you do to hide your love? How do make yourself fall out of love? I had no answer then.
Every day we are doing things we take for granted that other people are dreaming of. And that simple realisation made me feel immensely guilty. Why me? For sure there are many other talented, kind and smart people who deserve it too, but that is a reality I can’t change.

You get a glimpse of (widely accepted & portayed) history of Japan, mixed in with real human emotions and circumstances. In the end, you might only need a couple of day or a week to finish it and then it is well worth your time.
